The ASIC design service company, Brite-Semiconductor (Shanghai), Inc., with only half year’s history, has created three miracles in China’s ASIC foundry history in succession: together with a famous national semiconductor design company, Brite announced the successful tapeout of the 130nm ASIC project of their cooperation in the third month (July, 2008) since its foundation; then signed a 90nm chip design contract with another famous national semiconductor design company in September, and then announced the successful tapeout of 65nm ASIC in October. Those performances indicate that this company became the first design service company, which has obtained 65nm design abilities and realized tapeout during such short period in China. And this fulfills what Charlie Zhi, Brite’s CEO, accentuated: ”Brite is not a startup company, but a new company”

Then, what kind of background qualifies Brite-Semiconductor Inc. to achieve its business success so fast and build up its leading advantages within such short period in China’s market? Mr. Russell Lee, the Senior Director of Sales and Marketing of Brite introduced: “We are fully supported by our parent company Open-Silicon in terms of technologies. Open-Silicon, as an IC design service company, independent from the Intel., is the IC design department of the Intel at the early stage, therefore, Open-Silicon has comparatively powerful technical strength. Brite is capable of providing design service with high quality for customer, because Brite not only completely undertakes the advanced design abilities of Open-Silicon, but also installs extremely precise project management from Open-Silicon. In addition, Brite executes flexible business mode, which encourages customers in China’s market to sign contract with us, and accepts customer to sign contracts with Open-Silicon at the same time. ”

Brite-Semiconductor focuses on high-end design service and Turn-Key service below 90nm, as well as providing one package service from source code or netlist to chip as finished product. Based on the tenet of Customer-First and open service idea, Brite-semiconductor provides complete chip solution, including foundry, technical node, IP, back-end design, package and testing proposal, and Logistic. At the early stage of customer’s design period, Brite-Semiconductor starts to step in, in order to consider overall product as a whole at the beginning of design. Brite-Semiconductor has a set of precisely design workflow. Our restrict quality control starts from customer’s netlists, to ensure chips can be successfully tapeouted at the first time. No matter MPW, nor project trial production, Brite-Semiconductor provides services of the testing program development and the package design development, to satisfy customers’ requirements of the process and quality of chips. Brite-Semiconductor keeps good relationships with other wafer manufacturers, IP vendors, package manufacturers, and testing manufacturers, so we can provide multiple choices for customers.

Russell mentioned, taking a 65nm project for example, generally we can finish back-end in half year, and then finish package and testing in the following 3 months, therefore we can provide one package service of ASIC back-end design service for customers.

Russell Lee disclosed with confidence: it’s very hopeful for us to sign several high-end design service projects in the first quarter of next year. Expect for that, Open-Silicon will outsource comparative parts of business to Brite next year. “Although the economic surroundings is not so optimistic at the moment, Brite’s business vision is rather expected”

Russell Lee expressed, our strategy is to accumulate enough customer groups, and to seek to favorable price offer, lead time, and production capacity for customers when negotiates with foundry and testing and package manufacturers.

Although the bankruptcy of IP Core makes the public doubt the future of design foundry, in fact, as the fast increase of the ASIC developing cost, and the rising of the cost and profit consciousness of customers, the demands for design foundry are still increase in the market.Russell said, the reason is that if there were no more than 6 chip projects of 90nm, or 4 chip projects of 65nm for a customer to develop, then he’ll find, it’s unreasonable to support a back-end team.
