May 30, 2016 - GD Midea Air-Conditioning Equipment Co., Ltd. and Brite Semiconductor, a leading ASIC design and turnkey service provider, signed a strategic cooperation agreement and held the opening ceremony of “Media and Brite Semiconductor (SMIC) Joint Research Library” at Midea Air-Conditioning Institute.
Brite Semiconductor was co-founded by Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), the largest and most advanced foundry in mainland China, and venture capitalist firms from China and Silicon Valley, with branch offices and sales offices worldwide. With the strategic cooperation with ARM, Synopsys, STATS ChipPAC and so on, Brite provides customers with flexible design and turn-key services.
It is learned that Midea and SMIC had signed Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with CHEARI (China Testing & Inspection Institute for Household Electric Appliances) and Peking University on the design of power chip and commercialization of products. This time, Midea and Brite reached an agreement on the R&D of IoT chip and packaging and testing technology, which will further strengthen the upstream and downstream integration of China’s Electronics Industry chain, and drive the processes of energy-saving and intelligence of China’s household electric appliances.

Qiu Xiangwei and Charlie Zhi signed the strategic cooperation agreement. The two sides agreed to adhere to the principle of complementary advantages, mutual benefit and win-win, relying on Midea air-conditioning, to achieve in-depth cooperation in the field of intelligent control.

After the signing ceremony, representatives of both parties attended the opening ceremony of “Media and Brite Semiconductor (SMIC) Joint Research Library”. Combining the advantages of Midea’s application ability and Brite’s IC design capacity, and making full use of SMIC’s advanced process, the Lab will carry out the R&D of key chip in air conditioning application to support Midea air conditioning’s technology leading position.
Lastly, Brite semiconductor representatives visited products exhibition hall of Midea Air-Conditioning Institute.
